Litchfield, Connecticut

The town of Litchfield is located in the central part of Litchfield County. It has a population of 8000 residents. The K through 12, self-contained school system has a student body of approximately 1200.

Litchfield is governed by a body of Selectman headed by First Selectman Craig Miner. The fire departments and ambulance are volunteer. There are two full-time policemen.

The picturesque town consists of five districts: Bantam, home of Bantam Lake, the largest natural body of water in the County, the Historic Borough of Litchfield, which hosts some of the finest antique homes in Connecticut, East Litchfield, the historic country village of Milton, and Northfield.

Litchfield is approximately:

  • 2 hours north of New York City (100 miles)
  • 2 hours from Boston
  • 45 minutes to Tanglewood
  • 45 minutes to Bradley International Airport
  • 20 minutes to Music Mountain
  • 20 minutes to Yale Summer School in Norfolk
