Litchfield County is bordered on the north by Massachusetts, and on the west by New York State. It is dissected by the Housatonic, Naugatuck, and Shepaug river systems. Spectacular Colonial villages dot the landscape, such as Cornwall, Lakeville, Litchfield, Norfolk, Sharon, and Washington. Torrington is the largest town with a population of 35,000.
